Gender Equality Scheme

Equality Act 2006

 

The Equality Act 2006 introduced a new Gender Equality Duty on public bodies including Barking and Dagenham Council. Under the Act, we are required when carrying out functions to have due regard to the need to:

The Gender Equality Duty places a number of specific duties on the council including preparing a Gender Equality Scheme, following consultation with stakeholders, including employees, service users, providers, and trade unions that shows how we will fulfil our duties under the Act.

 

Our Gender Equality Scheme covers priorities and actions to promote gender equality from 2007 to 2010. The following overarching gender equality objectives have been identified in the Scheme, drawn from local consultation:
