It's up to all of us in the borough to support Fairtrade in Barking and Dagenham. We need to make sure that shops and cafés in the borough have a reason to stock Fairtrade goods. If customers ask for Fairtrade goods, shops will begin to sell more of them!
All you need to do is to buy at least 1 Fairtrade product every time you go shopping. That way you will be able to try a range of Fairtrade products and make a real difference to peoples lives in the developing world just through doing your daily tasks.
Fairtrade products are available in many of the borough's shops and supermarkets already such as the Co-op, Tesco, Asda, Greggs, Sainsbury's and Morrisons. If you cant find them at your local store, why don't you ask the owner to get in a few brands?
Local wholesalers can supply Fairtrade products, and we can also provide a list of where to get orders of Fairtrade items - both small and large - for all types of shops in the borough. We also have more information about how to make your business greener.
If the demand is there, more shops will start stocking Fairtrade brands meaning that we can make a difference to more peoples lives in the developing world.
There is also a steering group on Fairtrade active in the borough. This meets every 3 months. The next meeting will be in March. Check here for updates or email joe.baker@lbbd.gov.uk to get involved.
