Halloween Advice
Halloween takes place on 31st October. For many people it's an evening filled with ghouls, ghosts and great fun but for some, the evening brings less enjoyment.
The Barking and Dagenham Community Safety Partnership has created a poster that can be put in the window by those people who do not want visitors on Halloween.
You can download it or pick up a poster at the library or ask your Safer Neighbourhoods Policing team for one.

If you are 'trick or treating' this Halloween, look out for the poster and please respect the person's wishes.
The Partnership has also has put together a quick guide to allow you to have fun while keeping you and your neighbours safe.
If you are Trick or Treating
- Always make sure you have a responsible adult with you
- While it's fun to dress as witches and ghouls, you need to be seen in the dark when crossing the road so make sure you have something light or reflective with you
- Make sure you tell someone where you are going and which roads you plan to cover
- Never go into a stranger's house or accept a lift from someone you don't know
- Don't wander off on your own. Stay in a group and stay safe
- Masks can be great but make sure you can see properly to cross the road
- Look out for the 'no trick or treat' poster and please respect the person's wishes
- Be wary of accepting sweets from people you don't know - restrict your trick or treating to homes of your friends
Parents of 'Trick or Treaters'
- Make sure you know who your children are with and, take it in turns to provide an escort for them
- Make sure they know that they should respect people's wishes if they don't want to join in with 'trick or treat' on Halloween. Remind them to look out for and respect the 'No Trick or Treat' poster
- Don't allow your children to take things like eggs, flour or fireworks with them
It is illegal to
- Buy or have fireworks if you are under 18
- Use fireworks dangerously or cause a nuisance
