In 1998 we created the post of Access Officer. The Access Officer is based in Building Control but has links with all Council services.
We are keen as part of its commitment to equalities to meet the needs of disabled people.

Disability Language and Etiquette|
A guide to accepted language and etiquette defined by disabled people.
Access includes physical accessibility to buildings and making it easier and safer for local people to physically travel round the borough. Improved access benefits all members of the community.
It also means looking at different ways of providing information to disabled people such as Braille and audiotape.
The most important part of recent legislation is the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 which amends or extends existing provisions in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Its main aim is to promote the rights of disabled people in accessing and receiving services.

A free service available to those who, through age or disability, cannot visit a library.
Offering access to locked public toilets.
