Children with Special Educational Needs

Frequently asked questions

How is the Statement of Special Educational Needs reviewed?

We review all statements at least every year by consulting parents and carers. For children under 5 statements are reviewed at least every 6 months. If the child's needs have changed significantly, we will amend the statement.

We will send you a copy of the new proposed statement. You may ask to meet a local authority officer to discuss any concerns you have.

We will withdraw the statement when a child no longer needs it. This happens if we think the school can meet the child's needs without it. Usually the pupil will continue to receive support through school action or school action plus.

You may appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal if you believe your child still needs the statement.
