The Early Intervention Service

What is the intensive package of support?

The intensive package of help which the service gives to each pupil who meets the criteria for support addresses his or her difficulties in 3 different ways at the same time:

By the provision of one to one and small group help each morning for up to 1 year at one of The Early Intervention Service's centres, which are known as 'The Acorns'
Through regular therapeutic family meetings every 2-3 weeks
By outreach support to the pupils and advice to their teachers in mainstream school, where pupils return each afternoon

In recognition of the joint home-school approach of the service, and the emphasis placed on understanding each child's needs in the light of school, home and within-child factors, each pupil, their family and school are supported by a named key teacher, nursery nurse and family therapist.
