Chaperones are responsible for the welfare, protection and guidance of children and young people in entertainment. They must act as if they are the parent of the child, or children, they chaperone (look after).
Chaperones must ensure that children, they look after are properly supervised and that they are allowed meal times and rest periods.
The chaperone's first priority is always the interests of the child. Chaperones will need to make sure, with producers, that the child's best interests are protected.
If a producer wishes a child to do something that could be seen as damaging to the child's health, welfare or education then the chaperone will need to challenge this. For instance, if a producer asks a child to work through their lunch break or work later than the permitted time, then the chaperone would not allow it to happen.
The maximum number of children that chaperones can care for is 12. If there is a mixture of ages and sexes then this number may be less. This is at the discretion of the local Council. We may insist on a combination of male and female chaperones.
