Chaperone licensing

Chaperones must, by law, have a licence unless they are the child's parent or legal guardian. Local Council's need to ensure that only suitable people are licensed to be chaperones.

If you are interested in becoming a chaperone you will need to complete and submit a chaperone application form (PDF logo PDF 24K).

The Access and Attendance Team is responsible for the licensing of chaperones who live in Barking and Dagenham. You can contact them for further information, an application form and a leaflet.

A chaperone must be licensed under the Children (performances) Regulations 1968. These Regulations were amended in 1998 and 2000.

For further information on these amendments go to the Office of Public Sector Information website (a government website for laws in the United Kingdom).
