Support and Information for Children (Juniors)

Educational Psychologists feel that it is very important to know children and young people's views. It is also very important that children and young people know about Educational Psychologists and their work.

What is an Educational Psychologist?

An Educational Psychologist is someone who has been specially trained. Educational Psychologists have all studied Psychology, Child Development and Learning. They try to understand how children behave and learn.

Who does an Educational Psychologist see?

The Educational Psychologist sees all types of children from very young children to teenagers. Children who need some help with their school work, their behaviour, getting on with others. Children who need some help getting around, with seeing and hearing, and with speaking and listening.

Who else do Educational Psychologists work with?

Educational Psychologists also work with parents, teachers and other adults. They all work together to try and help children do better at school.

Why am I seeing an Educational Psychologist?

The Educational Psychologist wants you to do even better.

Where will I see an Educational Psychologist?

The Educational Psychologist may visit you and your family at home or visit you in school.

What will happen when I see an Educational Psychologist?

The Educational Psychologist is interested in how you play, talk, think and learn. They will ask you about yourself. The things you like doing. Don't like doing. You may play together. You may be given some puzzles to do. You may be able to show off some of your work.

Then what happens?

The Educational Psychologist may come and see you again. They may see you many times. The Educational Psychologist will talk to you about the work you did together and will help you work with your teachers and family to make a plan specially for you.

And then?

With work that has been set you can start to see how you are getting better and working together with others.

What if I have got some questions I want to ask?

You can ask your parents or teachers or the Educational Psychologist.
