Childcare Affordability Programme (CAP) 1

Subsidised Flexible Childcare

What is Childcare Affordability Programme 1?

The London Development Agency is funding a scheme covering all London boroughs relating to childcare.

The scheme is aimed at subsidising full daycare and flexible childcare places in London for 0-5 year olds. In our borough only the flexible option is available.

How does it work?

Funding is provided to certain nurseries to offer some of their places flexibly. The flexibility varies from nursery to nursery but it means that a part-time place can be made available - usually only full-time places are offered.

The scheme allows nurseries to offer places that better reflect the needs of parents e.g. 2, 3 or 4 full days, half days, or a mixture of full and part days.

Who is eligible for the scheme?

The parent must be in receipt of Child Tax Credit at a higher rate than the family element (£547.50 for tax year 2008-2009). The nursery manager will need to see the award letter before a place can be offered.

How do I apply for a place?

You will need to contact the nursery direct to enquire if they have any places available. Nurseries operating the scheme are:
