Children and Young People's Plan

Barking and Dagenham's Children and Young People's Plan 2006-09 was published in April 2006. It sets out our vision and a number of key priorities and outcomes we want to achieve throughout the next 3 years for children, young people and their families.

The Children's Trust is the guardian of the Children and Young People's Plan and are responsible for monitoring and reviewing the progress made.

The Children's Trust is made up from a range of organisations that provide services for children and young people in the borough and includes representatives from the Council, the Primary Care Trust, the Police, schools and the community and voluntary sector.

The Children and Young People's Plan is a strategic document that represents the key priorities we want to achieve. The Children and Young People's Plan is supported by an implementation plan which informs individual team plans.

The Children and Young People's Plan is also linked to a range of other partnership strategies such as the Local Area Agreement and the Community Cohesion strategy.

One year on

The Children and Young People's Plan has an important driver in getting services to work together more effectively to improve the lives of children and young people in the borough.

We are required by national guidance to review the Children and Young People's Plan on an annual basis to assess progress and consider whether local needs and priorities have changed.

It is important that the review process and production of future Children and Young People's Plans continues to act as a driver for reform, as well as providing details of future actions.

The Children and Young People's Plan Review: One Year On was published in October 2007 and identifies our key priorities and areas of focus for Year 2 of the Children and Young People's Plan.

The review shows where outcomes have been improved for children and young people and where progress has been slow. It also identified new priority areas following our recent Joint Area Review inspection.
