Toddler talk

A group that encourages children aged up to 5, with their parents/carers to learn, make friends and communicate through play. Admission is on a 'first come first serve' basis, in which only the first 15 children are admitted. It is recommended that you arrive early as it does get very busy.

Storytelling (fortnightly)

A group that encourages children with their mums, dads/carers to develop language, literacy and imagination through story-telling.

Baby weighing

A drop-in session to have your baby's weight checked and to discuss any worries or concerns with the health visitor. Children up to the age of 5 are also welcome. Sessions are held strictly according to their times, therefore, you are asked to be punctual.

Time: 1.30pm - 3.30pm (Mondays) and 9.30am - 11.30am (Thursdays)

Baby massage

This is a 5 week course that is suitable for babies from birth and before they can crawl. It can help with a variety of things, including baby's sleep and digestion. Registration is not necessary, you can just drop-in. Please remember to bring a towel.

These are a series of workshops running over 4 weeks. The workshops look at supporting children's language development. Places must be booked in advance.

This session takes place once a month and offers advice and support for parents/carers who have concerns or queries about a child's communication and development.

Little rhyme makers

This is a drop-in session for parents and carers with children up to 5 years. The focus here is on learning songs, actions and playing musical instruments, which encourages children to learn new words and develop listening and turn-taking skills. This is a fun and important way to help your child's learning and language. Admission is on a 'first come first serve' basis. It is recommended that you arrive early as it does get very busy.

Incredible years parenting programme

This 12 week course is open to all parents and carers of children aged 2-8 years. It allows small groups of parents and carers to learn new skills, helping you cope with your child's behaviour and to build positive parent-child relationships.

 

You can share experiences, learn from each other and give each other support. The course helps to build your confidence and self-esteem in a relaxed, non-threatening environment. Places must be booked to join at the beginning of the course and a certificate is awarded upon completion.

 

Crèche facilities are only available for the day course and not the evening one.

An informal group for young parents and their children to meet, play and make new friends.

An informal group for mums, dads and their children to meet, play and make new friends. A family support worker is also available to give advice, chat or talk over any concerns. Guest speakers can be arranged to attend these sessions to discuss topics that have been planned by the group.

Strengthening families, strengthening communities

This programme is open to all parents with children aged 0 -19 years. It will help to strengthen existing parenting skills and offer new ideas to build a better future for your family and community. If crèche provision is required, please contact us.

Structured home visiting support

The family support team can provide practical and emotional support to parents and carers. This can range from advice on managing budgets to establishing positive routines and managing challenging behaviour. Clients are usually referred by agencies or can also refer themselves for this service.

 

Home visits are made by appointment or you can drop-in to meet with a member of the family support team at the Children's Centre. It is advisable, however, to telephone in advance as staff may not be available.

 

Date: Daily

Time: 9am - 5pm, although these times are flexible

Mobile food store

The Community Food Enterprise mobile food store comes to the Sue Bramley Centre car park every week selling a fresh supply of fruit, vegetables, milk, rice, pasta and baby products. The goods are sold at affordable prices, which can be cheaper than the local supermarket. This service is open to all.

Breastfeeding Peers support group

This is a 12 week training course for local mothers who would like to volunteer to become Breastfeeding Peer Counsellors, in which they can support their family, friends or even their local community with breastfeeding. So, if you have breast fed your child or wanted to but found that you could not and would like to take on this role, then please do apply. Crèche facilities will be provided.
