The Axe Street Area is a key location within the town centre and is located just to the south of Barking Town Centre.
The regenerated site will act as the linkage between the Gascoigne Estate, the Town Hall, the shopping area based around East Street and Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, and the historic Abbey Green and River Roding.
The Master Plan was agreed by our Executive in November 2005 and proposes new housing, a 350 space public car park, a Child and Family Health Centre and new shops.
The Axe Street car park will be the first site to be redeveloped. Work commenced in February 2006 to provide a mix of 86 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats.
