Sustainable Communities in Dagenham

Transforming South Dagenham

We are going to create a new sustainable community in South Dagenham on land released by Ford, which is immediately to the south of Goresbrook Parade.

The area is going to be redeveloped with 5,000 new high quality homes, a new high street, new jobs and businesses, new community facilities including schools and health facilities, excellent transport links to Central London via C2C, the Docklands Light Railway and East London Transit, and high quality open spaces and parks.

In November 2004 the London Mayor, Ken Livingstone, announced a joint venture between the London Development Agency and AXA Sunlife Plc, which will see 2,000 new homes and 120,000 square feet of retail space built in the South Dagenham regeneration area on a 40-acre site comprising the Merrielands Retail Park and former Ford works off Chequers Lane in south Dagenham.

The high-quality £400 million development is one of a number of schemes the Mayor's London Development Agency is working on across the London part of the Thames Gateway.
