To encourage growth and new opportunities in the London Riverside area and the Thames Gateway as a whole, there is a need for improved transport links in the area.
In the Mayors Transport Strategy and draft London Plan he sets out his commitment to delivering growth and new opportunities in the area and is proposing a new bridge to help deliver this.
The Thames Gateway Bridge would cross the River Thames between Gallions Reach in Newham and Thamesmead in Greenwich.
The bridge would join existing dual carriageways on the north side at the A406 North Circular and the A13 at their junction with the A1020 Royal Docks Road, and with the existing dual carriageway, the A2016 Eastern and Western Way on the south side. New approach roads would be built to provide links.
Transport for London is currently carrying out a consultation exercise regarding the bridge and so wants to hear from local residents, businesses and organisations.
Further information and an online consultation form can be found on the Transport for London website.
Mobile exhibitions will also be held and the dates for these can be found on the Transport for London site or by calling 0800 321 080 - you can also call this number to receive a consultation booklet.
The consultation period ended on 12 August 2003.
