Growth of Barking Town Centre

We are implementing an ambitious plan to transform Barking Town Centre to make it the centre of choice for the new communities of London Riverside.

Construction of 4,000 (net) new homes will be accompanied by improvements to the public realm, intensification of the area around the station and the development of the area around the River Roding.

The creation of a high-quality, design led, environmentally sustainable urban environment will help attract a population with entrepreneurial skills and disposable income that can help kick-start growth in key sectors.

We are formulating a retail strategy for the town centre and we are discussing the feasibility of a Business Improvement District with businesses in the area.
