Business Guide

Barking and Dagenham has good links with Local Businesses and is committed to improving these still further by taking steps to improve our contracting systems to help local businesses compete successfully.

We are also examining how our regeneration objectives can be addressed within the terms of contracts for goods and services and to encourage procurement locally, where consistent with best value.

The changes facing the Borough offer new chances for our residents. We have made great progress over the last few years. Barking and Dagenham's Economic Development Strategy (PDF logo PDF 1.24M) and its associated action plan sets out a context through which we hope to capture the benefit of those changes and through which we will continue to ensure that Barking and Dagenham remains at the heart of the London Thames Gateway.

For some time we have organised with the Chamber of Commerce seminars for local businesses and voluntary organisations to explain the legislative framework, our requirements and the practicalities of tendering.

We have recently signed the Small Business Friendly Concordat. The good practice guide supports the principles of the Concordat which has been developed to assist the smaller and medium sized companies to do business with the Council.

Regeneration and Renewal's business development gives priority to supporting our small and medium sized enterprises and growing our stock still further.

Supply London is a programme funded by the London Development Agency designed to assist small businesses in London in their efforts to be a great supplier and win future contracts. The programme includes information events, workshops and one to one specialist advice all designed to help companies improve their competitive edge.
