The Barking and Dagenham Partnership was initially awarded £15.5 million over 3 years under the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, a government programme to boost business and enterprise in deprived areas.
Specific plans were rolled out that included a major programme to stimulate a local enterprise culture, the creation of a new enterprise partnership - Barking and Dagenham Enterprise.
Four years have passed since winning the bid and now the work of Barking and Dagenham Enterprise will be seamlessly handed over to the newly formed Skills, Jobs and Enterprise Board. The Board is private sector led, mirroring that of the Barking and Dagenham Enterprise Board.
The Skills, Jobs and Enterprise Board representatives are made up of key stakeholders, businesses, local councillors and community sector.
One of the key priorities of the Skills, Jobs and Enterprise Board through the Single Programme will be to continue the work of Barking and Dagenham Enterprise in prioritising business support and making the borough even more business friendly and in particular ensuring businesses benefit from the broader economic development agenda.
