The Adult Basic Skills Initiative works with external project funding and across all sectors to improve Skills for life.
The Initiative aims to:
- Support the sustainable growth of local businesses
- Increase the employment rate
- Improve the skills base of adults; and
- Support the policy of 'Grow your own' within the workforce through the implementation of the Skills Pledge
The Adult Basic Skills Initiative will:
- Aim to respond to all business referrals within 2 working days
- Provide Skills for Life training (or recommend provision) which includes initial and diagnostic assessment, individual learning plans and opportunities to gain national qualifications; and
- Reference all relevant training to national standards of adult literacy, numeracy and ICT
