A collection of archival photographs to illustrate transport throughout 70 years of Barking and Dagenham's history.
In the years between 1890 and 1959, Barking and Dagenham developed from a predominantly rural part of Essex into an industrial and residential suburb of England's capital city.
A dominant influence in this radical change was the parallel landmarks in the advances of transport and communications.
Photographs are shown in chronological order, with a brief introduction highlighting major innovations and events recorded in each decade.
This is possible due to the richness of the photographic collections housed at Valence House Museum, Dagenham.
