Local veterans give their own account of what happened on D-Day.
This book arose out of the text prepared for Valence House Museum's exhibition D-Day Memories. The exhibition was part of a borough wide commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of D-Day.
The book gives a snap-shot of the lives of ordinary Londoners and Essex people who became involved in what was called the 'Struggle for Civilisation.'
Over 130,000 servicemen were casualties in the 2 months that the allies were fighting in the Normandy Peninsula.
This book is a tribute to those servicemen who fought in Normandy and to the civilians who found themselves involved with the services.
Transcripts of the interviews are held at Valence House Museum and will form the basis of an oral history collection.
