The latest local history publication produced by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, has won an award. The Golden Dagger Award prize for non-fiction crime writing was awarded by the Crime Writers' Association.
The winning book, The Dagenham Murder: The brutal killing of PC George Clark 1846, published in December 2005 was written by Local Studies Librarian Linda Rhodes in collaboration with Lee Shelden and Kathryn Abnett. The Crime Writers Association judges commented that the book is:
"A definitive account of the notorious murder of a Victorian policeman. Extensively researched and well written".
Copies of the book can be purchased from any Barking and Dagenham library, Valence House Museum and online - priced £9.99.
