People, Time and Place - The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Heritage Strategy

The new Heritage Strategy for the borough was endorsed by us in September 2000.
The overarching priority of this strategy is to transform the view of the borough's heritage to one which is overwhelmingly positive and to increase the numbers of the community using and deriving pleasure from, the heritage services, sites and resources in the borough.
In particular the following 8 heritage strands are identified:
- Barking Abbey Site
- Old Dagenham Village and its Church
- Eastbury Manor House
- Valence House and its Collections
- Maritime and Fishing Heritage
- Industrial Heritage
- Becontree Housing Estate
- Oral, Family and Social History
