The Family History Project is an initiative launched by the History Channel. They want people to tell them the great stories from their families history. They can be stories about everyday people, stories of emigration, interesting professions and personal achievements - stories that bring your family tree to life.

A database of birth, marriage and death indexes 1837-1910. It is not yet complete.
The 1901 Census for England and Wales|
Where did your ancestors live in 1901?. Requires a voucher or credit card for calling up the full details, but looking at the index is free.
Commonwealth War Graves Commission|
Covers civilian deaths as well as armed forces personnel.
Includes information sheets, an online catalogue and a growing number of downloadable documents such as pre-1858 wills.
