Eastbury Manor House

Distinguished features

Preservation by National Trust ownership has ensured that some fascinating period features remain.

The west wing of the house was traditionally used by servants. The servant's hall has been restored, and oak panelling painted 'Eastbury brown' gives the room a warm appearance.

Upstairs, 2 rooms which were used by residents were decorated with wall paintings.

The fishing scene frescoes

Fishing scene frescoes

Frescoes depicting fishing scenes survive in the Painted Room. Others which used to grace the elegant Long Gallery have disappeared. However, the sole remaining Tudor fireplace can be seen here.

The newel post staircase

In the west staircase, a remarkable newel post staircase provides access in the remaining octagonal turret.

The attic

More interesting woodwork is the prominent attraction of the attic area where the construction of the timber skeleton of the house is exposed.
