Local artist Jim Stone was commissioned to create a new sign as part of local improvements to Tantony Green in Marks Gate, funded by Doorstep Greens.
Jim created a piece of work that is both artwork and sign at the green, near Arneways Avenue.
The artwork, in the form of a woman and unborn baby mimicking the letters T and G, was carved with the help of schoolchildren from Marks Gate and represents Tantony Green's heritage as a gateway to the Hainault Forest.
The 'Making your Mark' project developed in response to the need for creative signage on the Green - as part of the Doorstep Greens funding criteria - and commissioned by the borough's Arts Programme and Cultural Development on behalf of the Marks Gate Neighbourhood Management Team.
Jim Stone invited members of the local community of all ages to offer their designs and names for this sculpture, which was elegantly carved from a London Plane tree, felled in Hackney, as it was dying.
