The building has been completely redesigned by Tim Foster Architects, and rebuilt throughout at a cost of £4.8 million. It has a new glass frontage with lighting and landscaping, providing high quality performing arts facilities to the wider community and providing accommodation to Barking College School of Performing Arts.
The redevelopment of the Broadway is a partnership between London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and Barking College School of Performing Arts, with funding from us and the College, the Learning and Skills Council, Barking Town Centre Partnership Single Regeneration Budget, the London Development Agency, WREN and Arts Council of England.
The scheme is situated within Barking Town Centre, a major site for cultural and social regeneration as part of the Thames Gateway Development and forms part of the borough's ambitions for a cultural hub in the Town Centre along with artists' studios, the Barking Learning Centre, and library and exhibition facilities.
