The School has further plans to develop a Children's Theatre group for ages 7-11 years to meet 5.30pm till 7pm starting from September 2006, offering progression links for the Little Bandits to the Bandit Shed group.

Background to Bandit Shed

Dagenham Park Community School and Arts College entered into a successful partnership with Chicken Shed Theatre Company during 2001, which developed a programme of work that helped the school to achieve performing arts college specialist status.

The project with Chicken Shed resulted in several performances and new partnerships and a special focus on inclusive youth theatre. This focus produced the borough's first Inclusive Youth Theatre, Bandit Shed, an open access theatre group for young people of all abilities, across the borough.

Arts Act-cess

Arts Act-cess was set up in 2003 as a partnership between the borough, Dagenham Park Community School and Eastside Education Trust. It began as a project to develop drama and communication skills in young people at Dagenham Park, who then went on to share these skills with younger pupils from borough Primary Schools as part of a peer mentoring initiative.

The project has developed into an open access youth theatre, run by Eastside Education Trust, with funding from the borough and the Association of London Government, open to all young people aged from 13-17 years old.

Arts Act-cess now meet every Saturday, 10am - 12pm at Eastbury School. If you would like to join or any further information please contact Eastside Education Trust directly on 020 7033 2380.

Festival of London Youth Arts

The Festival of London Youth Arts is an annual, London-wide youth arts festival during April.

Barking and Dagenham took part for the first time in 2005, as a partnership between the Arts Programme and Cultural Development and Studio 3 Arts, to support young people participating in dance, drama and visual arts.

The projects and workshops culminated in a performance at The Broadway, showcasing talents including street dance, DJing and video work and Studio 3 Arts' hip hop version of Romeo and Juliet, produced as part of their Big Deal project.

Rock School|

The Community Music Service has launched a new Rock School, offering instrumental tuition for young people.

As a follow up to the success of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham's film Schools and Young Persons Film Festival, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham has been awarded a grant from First Light Films to produce 2 10-minute films which have been written by young people from the borough and who's writers will now have the opportunity to direct these films.

Variety of support is offered ranging from office space, administrative support to cash input, training and hands on advice from a professional executive producer.
