Barking and Dagenham Council is launching a recession busting campaign to support local businesses and protect local jobs.
The "Buy B and D" campaign will be one of the many priorities of the newly formed Barking and Dagenham Recession Taskforce, a group of councillors and senior officers set up to help support local people through the difficult economic times ahead.
Cllr Liam Smith, Deputy Leader of the Council, who chairs the task force said, "We strongly encourage residents of Barking and Dagenham to support local shops and businesses. If our local businesses are supported then they are less likely to sack employees. We want jobs and money to stay in our community."
Cllr Charles Fairbrass, Leader of the Council, said, "As a council, the last thing we want to see are local businesses closing down. It's critically important that we look out for each other in these tough economic times."
He added: "Whether you need a new washing machine or groceries, make sure you consider those businesses in your community that provide jobs to local people."
The task force will meet with Barking and Dagenham businesses in the coming weeks to further develop the "Buy B and D" campaign and recession busting initiatives.
