Our Olympic Ambition
The Council's vision is that Barking and Dagenham is a borough which is clean, safe, fair and respectful, prosperous, healthy and where young people are inspired and successful.
Our ambition is that the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games will help realise the Councils vision for Barking and Dagenham.
Being an Olympic Gateway Borough, with the Games on our doorstep is momentous, it offers a unique opportunity, that many residents will only experience once in their lifetimes.
We urge the community to embrace our slogan 'Your Games, Your Borough, Be part of it'.
The Olympic Ambition will focus on 4 themes:
- Capturing the Excitement of London 2012 and Enthusing the Community
- Providing a Sporting Legacy, Raising Participation and Volunteering
- Promoting Participation in the Cultural Olympiad
- Creating Opportunities for new Skills, Jobs and Businesses
Over the next few years the wealth of benefits in the borough will include new high-quality sports facilities, more opportunities to participate in sport, modernised and extended transport links, job opportunities and the regeneration of the Thames Gateway.
