Talented Athletes

In Barking and Dagenham we are proud to support a number of talented athletes, some of whom are World and European Champions.

They each spend many hours travelling around Great Britain and Europe competing in high level competitions, representing both their country and the borough.

It is hoped that some, if not all of them, will achieve the standard required to compete in the London 2012 Olympics.

The borough is helping these athletes achieve their hopes and dreams by providing them with free access to gyms and swims through our Free Access for National Sportspeople (FANS) Scheme, which will enable them to train, at no cost, in several leisure centres across the borough.

Athletes competing at a high standard in their sport may be eligible for grants to assist with the high costs of training, competing or equipment.

Please support our Talented Athletes in Barking and Dagenham and follow them on their journey all the way to 2012.

To find out more about each athlete view the Talented Athletes profiles.
