Daniel is 16 years of age and his recent change of swimming club and increase in training from 7½ hours to 14½ hours a week (13½ hours of this is in the water) has started to show through in his swimming, winning the 'Top Boy' in the 16 years and over age group at the 2008 Essex County Championships. Daniel has been swimming from the age of 9.
Daniel has been selected to attend training camps with Essex in Spain and Cyprus and also Southern Counties Training Camps at Crystal Palace and has this year also attended training sessions at Loughborough University.
Daniel has gained numerous medals at County, District and National level. In 2006 Daniel won the Bronze medal at the National Age Group Championships and achieved personal best times in all of the events that he competed in.
In 2007 and when Daniel was 15 he competed for the first time at the British Championships, and only narrowly missed the qualification times for 2008 (unfortunately although the championships are swum in March they go on year of birth in combined age groups 1990-1991, which means a birthday at the end of the year puts you at a disadvantage).
Daniel is currently ranked in the top 10 in his age group in the country in all backstroke events, both Long and Short Course, and in the 50m freestyle Long Course.
Daniel will continue to train and is hoping to compete for Great Britain at International events such as the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics in the future.
