We will be proudly flying the flag at the Civic Centre and Barking Town Hall to celebrate St George's Day on Wednesday 23 April 2008.

"As the patron saint for England, the Council is proud to be flying the flag of Saint George on behalf of many local people on this important day."

Further information on St George

St George is thought to have been an early Christian martyr from the area of modern day Turkey who was executed in Palestine in the third century.

He became the official patron saint of England in 1425 after Henry V's victory at the Battle of Agincourt.
