Work to improve Dagenham Heathway begins

Work has begun to radically improve the main road in Dagenham Heathway. The Heathway will now close each weekend between 6pm on Saturdays and midnight on Sundays for 7 consecutive weekends until the works are complete on Sunday 9 March 2008.

Pedestrians will continue to have access to the Heathway however, as well as Dagenham Heathway underground station.

The works will also require the temporary re-routing of bus services via Church Elm Lane, Oxlow Lane and Reede Road during the periods when Dagenham Heathway is closed to traffic.

Barking and Dagenham Council has written to residents and businesses in the Dagenham Heathway area, and will also be in continuous discussions with the Police and Transport for London regarding the works.

Councillor Milton McKenzie, Executive Member for Highways, said:

"Although these types of closures can be disruptive and inconvenient, I hope that the community understand that everything has been done to minimise the negative impact, and that the ultimate aim is the radical improvement of the Heathway in particular, and the borough as a whole."

Anyone requiring further information about the improvement work to Dagenham Heathway should contact the council on 020 8215 3005.

Friday 25 January 2008.
