Plans to extend the Docklands Light Railway into Barking and Dagenham have been delayed while Transport for London decide how the project will be funded given the credit crunch. A public inquiry into the scheme was due to start on Tuesday 4 November 2008, but this has been put on hold until at least until the New Year.
Plans for the development of more than 4000 new homes at Barking Riverside, depend on the Docklands Light Railway extension going ahead. This includes the jobs that would have been created on the construction of the Docklands Light Railway extension and the Barking Riverside development.
A lobbying effort by the Council has been launched to ensure that Docklands Light Railway can appear at a Public Inquiry early next year with a funding package in place.
