The annual Borough in Bloom Competition celebrates the most colourful and attractive flower arrangements, on domestic premises and community gardens.
Nominations are now being taken for gardeners who wish to enter the best Front Garden and Container and Hanging Baskets Competitions for 2008.
Prizes will be awarded to the best 4 front gardens, the best 4 containers and hanging baskets and the best community garden. The closing date was Wednesday 25 June 2008.
There is also a community garden award for residents in the borough.
This is for gardens that are visible to the general public and are 2 or more gardens that create a bigger combined display in collaboration with their neighbours.
Community gardens can include community centres, schools, day centres, sheltered accommodation and places of worship.
This has a prize of £50 donated by the Havering Fencing Company who have also kindly sponsored the boroughs allotments competition. Further details on this can be found from Damien Parker (Group Manager - Parks, Cemeteries and Security) on 020 8227 3238.
Hanging Basket entries must relate to gardens at the front of the house or flats or community gardens with access to the public.
The boroughs best entries are then put forward to represent Barking and Dagenham at the prestigious London in Bloom competition.
Asda is sponsoring the competition and vouchers for the supermarket will be up for grabs for the winners.
There are also up to 30 consolation prizes for quality entries which will receive a London in Bloom certificate of excellence.
The London in Bloom judges visited the borough on Wednesday 2 July 2008 to view our best entries and also looked out for private businesses, including restaurants, hotels and public houses featuring colourful schemes or landscaped areas.
