The table of information gives statistics about entry to reception classes to Barking and Dagenham infant and primary schools in September 2007. It includes the number of people who sent us their application forms by the closing date and shows the number of pupils given a place under each category of the 2007 admission criteria.
This information should give you an idea of the chance that you have of getting a place at your preferred schools.
Please note: The number of applications for each school and the addresses from which children are applying will be different from year to year. As a result, we cannot guarantee that the furthest distances from school for people applying for 2008 will be similar to those who applied in 2007.

Special Educational Needs - Number of children with a full statement of special educational need for that school
Children in the care of a local authority - Number of children given a place because the child being in care of a local authority
Sibling - Number of children given a place because they have a brother or sister at that school
Neighbourhood - Number of children given a place because they live in the neighbourhood area for that school
Distance - Number of children given a place because they come under the distance category (priority)
Last place given - Distance (in kilometres) the child given the last place lives from the school
Nearest School with a Vacancy (NSV) - Number of children given that school as the nearest school to their home which had a space

- Of the total applications we received by the closing date:
- 90.5% received their 1st-preference school
- 4% received their 2nd-preference school
- 1.5% received their 3rd-preference school
- 3% were given the nearest school to their home which had a place; and
- 0.5% were not offered a place under the admissions criteria

- The statistics for late applications refer to applications received between Saturday 10 February 2007 and Monday 3 September 2007
- The appeals information is based on the first round of appeals heard between Sunday 8 April 2007 and Monday 3 September 2007

This example uses information for Northbury Infant school to help you understand how to use the table.
- The total applications column shows that 153 people applied for a place at the school (by the closing date)
- Admission number column shows the maximum number of children that may go to the school within a school year and in this case it is for 90 children
- The special educational needs column shows no children were given a place because they have a statement of special need for that school
- The LAC column shows 1 child was given a place because the child was in care of a local authority
- The sibling column shows 47 children were given a place because they had a brother or sister at the school
- The neighbourhood column shows 39 children were given a place because the lived in the neighbourhood area for that school
- The distance column shows 3 children were given a place under the distance category
- The last place column shows that the child who got the last place under the neighbourhood category lived 0.865 kilometres from the school
- The NSV column shows that because Northbury school places were filled with children from the sibling and neighbourhood criterion, there were no more places to offer other children
- The late applications column shows the 55 people applied for a place at Northbury school after the closing date (between Saturday 10 February 2007 and Monday 3 September 2007)
- The appeals received column shows 40 parents appealed for a place at the school; and
- The last column (appeals allowed) showed 8 of those parents won their appeal and gained a place for their child at the school
