The Road to Learning 2008

St Peter's Roman Catholic Primary School

Admission criteria and procedure

St Peter's is a voluntary aided primary school with a nursery unit. The school admits children from 4-11 years into the school and at age 3 into the nursery (part-time).

Admission for reception classes

The closing date for applications for entry in September 2008 was Friday 15 February 2008. The school give priority to applications received before this date. There are usually more applications than places available. A place in the nursery does not guarantee a place in the school. The school gives priority to the practising families of St Peter's Parish in Dagenham.

Admission criteria

The school will interview parents in the summer term for the start of the next academic year. Places in the school are based on the admissions criteria which the governors make known to all who apply. The admission criteria, in order of priority, are shown below.

  1. Children of families who regularly go to St Peter's Parish (Dagenham) and take part in that community
  2. Children of practising Catholic families of other parishes who cannot find a place in their own parish school
  3. Children of Catholic families who live in the boundaries of St Peter's Parish, Dagenham
  4. Children of Catholic families of other parishes who cannot find a place in their own parish school
  5. Children of parents who want them to have a Catholic education and who live in the St Peter's Parish, Dagenham

By agreement with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham the governors will only admit baptised Catholics, or those preparing for baptism in their parish, into the school, except in the case of criterion (category) 5 above. We will give preference to children who have brothers or sisters in the school already, within each of the above criteria groups.

The governors will decide who gets places in the nursery or the primary school. Being in the school nursery does not automatically give a child a place in the primary school. If the school refuses a place, you will need to write to the school to ask for an appeal form.
