Admission Criteria and Procedure
The governors will accept up to 60 pupils to each year group. Getting a place in the nursery does not guarantee a place in a reception class, and parents whose children go to the nursery must apply again for a place in a reception class. All nursery places are part-time. Both nursery and reception places are given in line with the following criteria.
Admission criteria
Points awarded to parents who:
- 10 - Regularly go to St Margaret's, St Patrick's and Christ Church, Thames View churches in Barking
- 10 - Regularly go to St Erkenwald's Church, Barking
- 7 - Regularly go to East Ham Team Ministry, St George's and St Paul's, East Ham, St Luke's Ilford and All Saints, Goodmayes
- 6 - Regularly go to other Anglican churches
- 5 - Regularly go to churches belonging to the Barking Churches Fellowship
- 3 - Regularly go to all other Christian churches
- 2 - Occasionally go to Ecclesiastical Parish of Barking Churches
- 1 - Occasionally go to other churches or who do not go to church at all
Extra Points:
- 2 - For brother or sister already at the school
Important notes
- Regularly going to church is defined as going to service most Sundays
- An existing place in the nursery will not necessarily mean a place in the primary school
- Within each category, the school will give priority to children in care of a local authority
- Distance from home to school will be used as a tie-breaker for pupils who have an equal claim for a place
Administration
You will need to fill in the enclosed Common application form (
PDF 155K) and return it to the Admissions and Attendance Team by Friday 15 February 2008. You must also fill in the priest's reference form for St Margaret's and return to the school by Friday 15 February 2008.
This second form shows your commitment to your faith as shown by your links to your local church. The school will place applications received after this date on a waiting list.
In all cases the governors will need references from your clergy (leader of your church) on behalf of your child. A panel of governors will consider all applications, and the Admissions and Attendance Team will let parents know of the outcome in writing on Friday 4 April 2008 by 1st-class post.
Appeals
Parents of children of school age who fail to gain places may appeal to the governors by writing to the Chairperson at the school, within 14 days. The head teacher will give you the information about appealing if you want to take this action. The school keeps a waiting list and you can be placed on this list if you let the head teacher know in writing.
