Headteacher: Ken Jones BA (Hons)
Open Evening was held on Wednesday 23 September 2009, 6pm - 8.30pm.
We are already showing our ability to constantly better ourselves by making changes to improve the quality of education. We have achieved this by personalising the work of students in Years 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3) and Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4).
We are inclusive in the way we provide for the individual and very different needs of our students, for example, we hold a regular school inclusion panel meeting to make sure we target our resources, and those of our partners, to meet students' needs.
As a school, we all recognise the need to continue to learn, so that we can continually improve on the way we work together to promote the best learning for students.
Ofsted (November 2007) said that we provide a satisfactory and rapidly improving quality of education. Results have improved in almost all measures for the last 2 years in Year 9's Key Stage 3 SATs, Year 11's GCSEs and sixth form GCE AS and A2 results.
We expect these improvements to continue. We were 1% short of equalling the best ever GCSE results at 5 A* to C grades in 2007. The current Year 11 will significantly improve on all previous levels of success in this measure.
We aim to make sure that every student receives high-quality teaching and care. Ofsted described the school as a happy place for students and staff to work in. They also described the school as 'harmonious', and we are very proud of this. Our staff work hard to achieve the best possible results for all pupils, whatever their ability.
Academic achievement and success in examinations are the results of good teaching and hard work by the students. Our students are achievers and are prepared for life after school as confident and successful members of society. We are committed to maintaining a friendly and disciplined atmosphere in which we encourage students to value their own cultures and respect others.
Our new drama and media block is now well used. Both these high-performing subjects have relished the opportunities offered by being in a high-quality environment for teaching and learning. The rooms all have interactive technology in place for teaching. This continues the school's commitment to meet the standard of resources set out in the government Test Bed project.
We are looking forward to continuing to improve the resources available through the Building Schools for the Future project, which will provide a multi-million pound investment programme for the school.
We have also added 2 more art rooms after the subject became more popular with students.
The learning resource centre has a well-stocked library with internet access. The resource centre plays a central role in giving pupils the opportunity to study in a high-quality environment and the ability to work independently.
We also have some high-quality specialist facilities, for example, a lecture theatre fitted with video film and slide projection systems and dance studio. We have a music centre with state-of-the-art equipment. All students have a chance to learn a musical instrument.
We have well equipped sports facilities, including 2 gymnasiums, a fully equipped sports hall and an all-weather surface for hockey and football. There are many sports clubs, and our school teams have an excellent reputation in the area.
A successful education depends on parents and the school working together for the good of each pupil. We give parents up-to-date and regular feedback on each pupil's performance, through regular reports, parents' evenings and performance review days.
Together, these make sure parents can play a full role in supporting their children in their studies. We also produce a weekly newsletter - Warren Weekly - which is available in print and online. This newsletter helps to keep parents informed about what is happening in the school.
We will do everything possible to give students the education they deserve. We believe in achievement for all, and we have the teachers, the facilities and the good discipline for that success.
Come and visit us when you decide on your preferences for your child. We will make you very welcome. I am also prepared to give tours to small groups who are unable to attend our open evening.
