Head Teacher: Valerie Dennis BA (Hons), MA Ed
Open Evening was on Tuesday 23 September 2008, 6.45pm - 8.30pm.
At Eastbrook School we aim to be a centre of excellence for the whole community. We celebrate all achievement and encourage and support students to take the lead, achieve their best and deal with any challenges they may face.
Staff and students at Eastbrook expect the best of each other.
We have created a learning community where the relationship between learner and teacher is based on mutual respect and self-confidence.
While our focus is on individual achievement, we recognise that the social and cultural differences in our community are an important resource and a source of strength and celebration.
We have a very clear code of conduct. We expect students to behave well in lessons, around the school and in the local community and to respect other people's right to learn. We also encourage students to have an active say in how the school is run, through taking part in year forums, the school council and the student leadership programme.
The school day runs from 8.40am - 3pm each day, with extra voluntary sessions after school in the holidays and on Saturdays.
We structure our curriculum to allow students to learn in a variety of ways, including using the latest ICT.
Programmes for gifted and talented students make sure that they are challenged and achieve their potential. Our learning strategy makes sure that we meet all students' learning needs.
All students have individual targets which are regularly reviewed and monitored and are given the specialist support and expertise they need to meet these targets. We report progress and meet all parents and carers regularly during each year. We believe that regular contact is essential for schools and families to work together.
All students at Eastbrook School are part of a mixed-ability tutor group and should expect to stay in this group during their whole time at school. The tutor teams are led by teachers who, as well as knowing individual students, have experience of managing the learning of that particular age group.
We believe that regularly assessing and monitoring students and giving them challenging individual targets is the best way to maintain continued yet supportive pressure they need to achieve high standards. We do this in a variety of ways, including individual learning targets, regular progress reports and an academic review day.
The school supports students' special learning needs. This involves extra specialist teaching to develop literacy skills (reading and writing), extra language support and support with behaviour and organisation.
There is a Learning Centre which is open to everyone at the school, counselling services and access to specialist support teachers and health professionals. A team of learning mentors and teaching assistants provide support and a programme of activities for some of our students.
All students (except the sixth form) must wear school uniform. We can adapt our uniform to meet the needs of different ethnic groups. The sixth form dress code is smart and casual. Examples of the new PE uniform and school team kits will be on display at the open evenings.
The wide range of education we provide values all pupils equally and makes sure that everyone feels a sense of achievement and personal pride. We look forward to working with you, helping your child to thrive and achieve success.
