The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham serves some of the most deprived urban districts in the county.
Since the first Ofsted report in January 1997, the local education authority has raised both educational attainment and aspirations to 'an impressive degree', this is despite having a high educational disadvantage and being the 14th most deprived London borough.
The report highlights the rate improvement at all stages. 'Since the last inspection (1997), the performance of schools has improved markedly at all key stages and at age 18.'
This Ofsted report provides clear evidence that the local education authority's contribution to that improvement has been considerable.
