School Admission Appeals

Admission process

Who sits on the Appeal Panel?

The Appeal Panel is independent of the council and the school concerned. It is made up of 3 people who know about providing education in Barking and Dagenham.

The Appeal Panel will not include anyone who has been involved in allocating school places for this Local Education Authority, or anyone who has any knowledge of your case.

They will hear your appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place at the school you have asked for.

Although the hearing has to be held in line with the Education Act 1996 and the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, you will find that the Appeal Panel tries to be as informal as possible.

They will ask you to explain your reasons for your appeal in your own way. You will be able to ask the local authority's representative why the local authority turned down your application.
