School Admission Appeals

Admission process

Cases where class size prejudice does not apply

In the case of Key Stage 1 (Reception and Years 1 and 2) classes should not have more than 30 pupils. However, for Key Stage 2 classes (Years 3-11), there are no restrictions on class size.

The Appeal Panel will reach their decision in the following stages:

Stage 1: consider the facts

The Appeal Panel must decide whether offering your child a place at the school would make it difficult for the school to provide effective education or to use resources efficiently.

At this stage, the local authority must prove that would happen if they offered your child a place at the school. If the local authority can prove this, the Appeal Panel will move to the second stage.

Stage 2: find a balance

The Appeal Panel must consider the possible effects on the school and your reasons for wanting your child to go to that particular school before reaching a decision.
